MISSION:

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Big Brothers Big Sisters are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children facing adversity through professionally supported, long-term, one-to-one mentorships in service areas located in the continental United States and overseas.


HISTORY:

Founded in 1904 in New York City, Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization that provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.


BBBS NEEDS:

There is a high demand for male mentors and role models to help children succeed. Among children in active matches, 46% are Hispanic, 40% are African American, 9% are White, and 5% are Asian/Indian.


ELIGIBILITY AND AGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • School-Based Mentors: Must be 18 years of age, attending college, living in the Little Bigs community, and partnered with a public school.
  • Community-Based Mentors: Must be 21 years of age and contact the Little Big at least once a week.
  • Additional Requirements: Mentors must have a driver’s license, pass a national background check, undergo volunteer interviews, and provide personal references.

  • Have no criminal record
  • Be committed

  • Reinforce the student’s success
